EARLY HISTORY
Corinn's birthplace is Mercia, a village near the edges of Golmore that was fastidious in the upholding of Viera tradition. He grew up knowing exactly what was to be expected of him: to be entirely self-sufficient and to kill unworthy intruders into their territory on sight. Yet from the start, it was apparent that he was ill-suited for the solitary lifestyle of the Wood-warder-- as a kit, he was a born extrovert, thrived on the company of others, and disliked being on his lonesome. For better or worse, the mentor that took Corinn under his wing was understanding of these deficiencies, and foreseeing that the lure of the outside world would eventually call to Corinn's heart, he immediately began instilling an unflinchingly rigid sense of duty within the young jack, knowing that when the time came, only unwavering loyalty to the Word would allow him to resist temptation.Under this stern, but loving, tutelage, Corinn eventually overcame these perceived flaws in his personality and survived his apprenticeship. His master had done a thorough and well job, and for the next several decades Corinn adhered strictly to the Word even as he developed odd habits to cope with the prolonged isolation. By any other measure of judgement he was the perfect Wood-warder, and if he often looked out into the horizon beyond the borders, well, who was to know? By whatever twist of fate, the amount of apprentices he took on during his tenure as Wood-warder were but a few, and these cherished periods of companionship that alleviated his solitude were few and far between. He would have been-- not happy exactly, but content to go on living out his duty like this, except the expansion of the Garlean empire eventually brought increasing amounts of conflict to his part of the woods. The day came when a squadron of imperials pursued a small band of escapees-- among which was a Hrothgar-- directly into Golmore. Corinn pursued both parties in the trees unseen, and then strangled the immense pity he felt for the ragtag outsiders and showed himself to them. Coldly, he hardened his heart to their plight and gave them an ultimatum: they would proceed no further into Viera territory, and could either turn back and take their chances with their pursuers, or die right there and then by Corinn's hand. Given no choice, and seeing that Corinn's threat was very much real, they turned back.Corinn himself disappeared back into the trees to thin out as much of the squadron as he could; there were too many for him to face in the open, but given enough time using guerrilla tactics, he would halt their progress further into Viera lands. This proceeded well-- right up until he was shot out of the trees by magitek he'd never encountered before. Laid low and about to be dealt the death blow, the very last thing he expected to happen was for the Hrothgar he had threatened to kill before to come rushing to his aid, deflecting the blow and causing enough havoc for them to fight a way out.To Corinn, this was a horrible complication. He would have gladly given his own life and the lives of the escapees if it meant that the Garleans would leave Golmore after their quarry was dead-- instead, now he was on the run from them, supporting a half-unconscious Hrothgar that he now owed a life-debt to, too wounded himself to amount any sort of counterattack. Stricken with desperation, he went against everything he was taught and did the unthinkable: he led the Garleans home to Mercia. As he'd intended, the Viera there dispatched of the intruders with extreme prejudice, leaving none alive. The immediate threat neutralised, the matriarch then turned her fury onto Corinn, who had broken the Word in the most unforgivable way possible: led an outside threat straight to their home. She gave him only one offer of redemption: to kill the last remaining outsider-- the Hrothgar-- who had seen the location of their village then and there. In shame, Corinn refused. Incandescent with rage, the matriarch nodded, and then in a tone of ice, told Corinn that as soon as he and the Hrothgar were well enough to travel, he was to escort the Hrothgar out of Golmore, never to return. As for Corinn himself-- "don't bother coming back."Thus was his exile from his home and everything he'd known. Years later, the homesickness still plagues Corinn now and again; during these times, he sinks himself into the depths of the Twelveswood to alleviate some of the heartache. However, what serves as his sentence has also been a boon; finally free to follow his wayfarer's heart and its wanderlust, Corinn retired his forest name, chose another that reflected his roots, and carries on his wayward path.
RP HOOKS> Corinn is first and foremost, wanderlust-stricken! Since the East holds only painful memories, he's set his sights and horizons Westward and onwards -- and the continent of Tural is where new adventures await and new connections are being made! What better to explore a new land with new companions!> Corinn is second-most, a fighter at heart who lives and dies by his glaive. Connections are important to him, and he lives by the creed that "the quickest way to know someone is to fight them." He is always down for a spar, and relishes the challenge in fighting and overcoming any and all opponents. [OOC: I love writing fighting; see Grindstone mechanics.]> As Corinn is always between jobs, he is therefore always on the lookout for new ones. His resume includes: monster hunting, bodyguarding, procurement expeditions, escort services (the adventuring kind, not the fun kind), being a fake date, moving/delivery of wares, and many other odds and ends. Also, he's willing to accept payment in food instead of gil.> Corinn spends time deep in the Twelveswood when he misses home. While there, he falls into old Wood-warder habits, ghosting through the trees and striking down any hostile hazards that seek to harm anyone else also wandering the forest. Spend enough time there, and eventually your paths may cross.> Corinn's financials are always in the red because the jobs he takes usually net him little to no profit, and the gil he does manage to hold onto is usually given to the needier. He gives his assistance freely to those that ask it of him. If your character is also inclined towards such altruistic ventures, hey, two adventurers has a higher chance of coming through safely than just one.> If you are a forest-born Rava Viera, Corinn is always happy to listen to your tale. His own banishment was not by choice, and hearing any news from the homeland he can never return to brings him great joy and comfort.
